//Finchfeather// A long pink tongue lapped quietly at the cool stream water that came down out of the mountain, the tom-cat's yellowish-hazel eyes focused upon the ripples it created. Today was a good day. With his tail held high, the MountainClan deputy hummed to himself as he stepped back, taking a few moments to properly groom his pelt in a nearby patch of sunlight. He'd get to hunting in just a few short moments - but for now, he could enjoy his time away from camp.
I'll have to take Willowpaw out again, soon. The deputy mused as he groomed, his thoughts shifting constantly from his sister, to her kits, to his apprentice, to Sootstar, and to every other cat in the Clan. He'd never admit it, but he worried over everyone, and was constantly wondering if Sootstar had chosen right, in picking him. Still, there had yet to be any unforgivable mistakes on his part, so he was feeling pretty good thus far.

Moonfrost was chasing a squirrel, intent on catching it this time. Not paying attention, she ran right into the stream, but caught the squirrel. Climbing out soaking wet, she held her prize proudly in her jaw. She shook off her pelt and went to a nearby sun patch, trying to dry off as much as possible before heading back to camp.
She felt someone's gaze on her and jumped around, just in time to see the deputy of MountainClan staring at her.

//Finchfeather// Finchfeather gawked at her, his eyebrows raised as he stared at the gray and white-furred she-cat. What with all the noise she'd made running through the stream just a second ago, Finchfeather doubted there was any prey left in the area. "Hello," he said a bit thickly, giving her a soft nod of the head for greeting before glancing to the squirrel she'd chased. "Good catch!" He praised, allowing himself a small smile as he set back to grooming his tail. She was sopping wet, and it was likely she'd need that sun patch more then he did, so Finchfeather chivalrously moved to the side. She could use it instead of him, he didn't particularly mind anyway - he should be hunting, trying to feed his Clan. When Moonfrost had first joined MountainClan, Finchfeather had had his doubts about her, considering she'd come from LightningClan, and she'd been a cat who had disagreed with her leader to the point of leaving her birth Clan. That was a dangerous kind of cat, Finchfeather believed, and hadn't been so quick to trust the gray and white she-cat. Given time, however, he had found her to be as normal and trustful a she-cat as any of his own Clan. Hopefully she'd never give him a reason to think otherwise.

"I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were there!" she said, moving quickly. "I guess I wasn't paying much attention." She bowed her head quickly, wishing she had paid attention to something other than the squirrel. "It won't happen again, I promise."

//Finchfeather// Finchfeather chuckled, shaking his head from side to side in an amused disposition. She needn't be so bashful, he wasn't an apprentice, and he wasn't her mentor. "It's alright. You can make it up to me, though," the Abyssinian tom mewed with a mischievous smile, "By hunting with me, if you aren't too busy." It had been so long since he'd gone out with a hunting partner, and not a cat he had to keep an eye on, like an apprentice. It would be good for him to spend more time with a cat who had a history outside of MountainClan. It would be good to get to know her, and decide for himself where her true loyalties lie. Not that he had any doubts, it was always best to be sure.

She stood up and shook her tabby-striped fur again. "Gladly," she mewed. "I mean, that is if you'd like me to. I'm not the best hunter ever." She looked at her prey. "I probably scared all of the prey away with all the noise I made."

//Finchfeather// "We'll go deeper inland, then." the ruddy-colored tom mewed, shrugging off her tiny bout of self gradation at not being the best hunter in the Clan. He may not've been either, but Finchfeather wasn't interested in her skills, just so long as she brought back something, and she gave him someone to talk to. "After you bury your kill, we can go," He mewed cheerfully, glancing at her slowly drying pelt. She'd probably warm up and dry off once they got moving again.

Moonfrost nodded, quickly burying her catch. Her blue eyes were lit with determination to catch more prey quietly. "That's fine with me." She moved to his side and looked around, seeing that all the animals did run off at her ruckus. "I guess it would be a good time to practice being quieter anyways," she mewed.

//Finchfeather// The tom laughed, signalling with his tail for her to follow him slightly away from the stream, his ears rotating like satellite dishes, listening in for the faintest hints of a sound. "It was a simple mistake, no harm done," he murmured out of the side of his mouth, clearly distracted in his searching to really look her in the eyes. All at once, Finchfeather began to break out into a small trot, his whiskers twitching as he inhaled the scent of a vole lurking nearby - his pace inevitably slowing as he came closer to it's location. Where are you, little morsel? He chimed inwardly, creeping forward with an aura of stealth about him.

She nodded, quickly matching his pace a second after. She sniffed the air and found he was tracing a vole. She was excited, to be able to hunt with someone. She hadn't since she left LightningClan. Of course hunting with Finchfeather was different. It wasn't a challenge of who was better. She liked it better this way. Why had I ever looked up to my brother? she thought to herself. She shrugged off the mind trail quickly and focused on the hunt.

//Finchfeather// Pushing off with mighty back legs, the MountainClan deputy lunged for the vole that had been arranging its stores for the coming Leafbare, a small, muffled squeak escaping the vermin as Finchfeather landed on it. Snapping it's neck with a swift bite, the deputy returned to Moonfrost's side with the piece of prey swaying from his jaws victoriously. Setting it down, the deputy gave Moonfrost a small smile as he dug his paws into the earth, eager to get this buried so they could move on and hunt for something else. "Forgive me for butting into your business, but," Finchfeather really wasn't sure what had struck him to question her like this. "Why did you leave LightningClan? And what brought you to MountainClan, of all places?"

"I suppose it's a fair question. Not many cats do that. I just..." she paused, trying to phrase her answer correctly. "I never liked how Shatteredstar led I guess. It doesn't seem very..." at a loss for words she stopped mid sentence. "Then I just wandered for a while. It was pure chance I came into MountainClan territory." Her tail flicked angrily, mad that she couldn't find the right word to describe how she felt about Shatteredstar.

//Finchfeather// Finchfeather nodded understandingly. Whatever her reasons for not liking Shatteredstar, they were probably good ones. "Well I'm glad you came, Moonfrost. We could use all the able-bodied warriors we can get, now that Leafbare is finally here." Deep down, Finchfeather didn't want her to regret coming here; he loved his Clan and the many cats in it, and he would've taken it as a personal insult if she'd suddenly rejected MountainClan life now. "Oh, thank you Finchefeather. It's a nice place, MountainClan. I'm glad you're happy I'm here. I wouldn't want to be a burden on the Clan." She felt relaxed the deputy didn't want her gone. She gave him a small smile before darting ahead at the scent of another nearby vole.

//Finchfeather// Their time spent hunting together was going well, and for that, Finchfeather was glad. It wasn't long before he returned with a mouse, a vole, and a very thin squirrel in his jaws to bury them near his first catch, tail held high in the air in a sign of victory. Setting the prey down, his paws dug into the earth once more to uncover his vole, Finchfeather dumping the others there as well and covering it over carefully. Suddenly, however, the ruddy Abyssinian tom froze, his scent glands going into overtime as an unfamiliar tang hit his nostrils. What was it? "Moonfrost," Finchfeather mewed cautiously, wanting to make sure she was nearby in case something was wrong.
