Duskleaf Not for the first time, Duskleaf was impressed by her apprentice's vigilance. Briarpaw was obviously interested and motivated to become a medicine cat and that was one thing that she was grateful for. It was no fun to teach an apprentice with no motivation to learn at all, although Duskleaf could tell that Briarpaw's hesitation at learning how to defend herself was a little problematic. "Hear them...?" Duskleaf murmured to herself, contemplating Briarpaw's sudden question. Hear what? "You can't hear them, Briarpaw." She told her in a mild voice, wondering how she could come up with that. Flicking her ears at Briarpaw's sudden outburst. "Plants don't have voices." She told her apprentice. "You've seen one before, haven't you?" She asked, narrowing her eyes suspiciously while looking back to blink gratefully at Earthclaw. Without warning, Duskleaf coiled her muscles, whipping around in a sudden motion and sprang at the white-pelted apprentice with her claws sheathed. She might knock her apprentice's breath out, but there would be no real damage done to her as she was careful to keep her claws sheathed. She didn't know how the apprentice would respond, but it was meant to show her the importance of learning to defend herself.

Earthclaw
The large brown and red somali stared, almost in a laughing manner as the medicine cat tried to tell the mouse brained apprentices that plants could not hear or produce a voice. His eyes nearly widened when he realized what the medicine cat had done. She had sprung at her apprentice when she would least expect it. His eyes quickly narrowed again however as he watched Briarpaw's expression go from nodding and understanding to shocked and fear. He was nearly laughing. Though it was more a hidden laughter. He listened as Briarpaw tried to plead her way out of the situation. "That's not going to work." He meowed with a flick of his tail. "If I were an attacker I'd have killed you by now."
Briarpaw
The fluffy she-cat nodded. What a stupid question that had been. Of course plants didn't talk! It just wasn't natural. She sighed and nodded. Hearing her mentor talk to her like a kit frustrated her somewhat. She was Briarpaw now not Briarkit! An apprentice and not just any apprentice. The medicine cat apprentice! She nodded again and glanced around, scanning for plants that might be herbs and ignoring ones that wouldn't be. A yowl sprang from her throat when suddenly she felt herself being crushed under the weight of another cat. Her eyes flared wildly when she realized it was her mentor. Why was she doing this? Briarpaw couldn't understand. What had made her snap so easily. Briarpaw flared around, paws completely uncordinated with the moves she was trying to use to escape, not attack. "L-let me go!" She yowled in protest. "P-please Duskleaf!" Briarpaw thought that the reason she had been attacked was because she was mouse-brained. "Ill do better next time!" The white she-cat vowed earnestly. Briarpaw blinked, and her head whipping around frantically to find Earthclaw merely enjoying what he was seeing. "Make her stop!" She cried, though she knew that she wasn't truly hurt, but the thought scared her out of her wits.

Duskleaf;
A triumphant light was in Duskleaf's eyes as she knew that she terrified her apprentice. Hopefully this would teach her the importance of defense. Though she was on her apprentice, she could tell that her thick fur would stop light attacks, but not hold out against serious attacks. Flicking her tail lazily, she half closed her eyes, almost as if she was enjoying this. "So, my little fluff ball, are you willing to learn to protect yourself now?" She asked, cocking her head to the side. She had no real intention of getting out until Briarpaw had more or less sworn to properly learn. Either that, or if she fought her way out.
The medicine cat could tell that Earthclaw was amused; quite amused for that matter. Her guess was that he was enjoying this somehow. After all, Earthclaw wasn't one for niceties as she had already found out a while ago. Prodding Briarpaw (and somewhat enjoying this) she asked a question, "So what are you going to do about me? Let me pin you here for the rest of your life until you go to join StarClan? I should think not. Not if you want to be useful to your Clan." She stared at Briarpaw, willing her to do something.
She already had a plan if Briarpaw refused to try to shake her off, though she rather hoped that she wouldn't have to resort to that. The rain was coming soon and she was getting restless, though she refused to show it. Briarpaw was WindClan's future medicine cat and she had to learn, no matter what if the Clan was to survive.
