There is absolutely nothing about Hawkflame's appearance that says Quick! Come and give me a hug! I won't bite! From the end of his tail to the tips of his ears, Hawkflame possesses an untamed, unmerciful appearance – and if that isn't a big enough warning to stay away from him, then maybe those long, needle-like claws will finally tip a cat off? Life as a feral loner has left him surprisingly muscular and strong, his large-boned, broad-shouldered build giving him a considerable advantage against the scrawnier, underfed rogues he competes with. Hawkflame's personality doesn't allow him to accept anything less than the best, particularly with food – and fortunately for him, he has the means to ensure that he gets what he wants exactly when he wants it. Even by Clan-cat standards, Hawkflame comes off as a bit sharper and fiercer in appearance then most cats – which is more than likely due to his very TigerClan-like coloring and coat pattern. Due to Bengals not acquiring their true adult coloration until the age of one year, Hawkflame's dark, burnt sienna pelt is quite a recent development. In fact, approximately 6 or 7 moons ago, it would've come off as a drab, spotted beige coat to anyone who so happened to look in his general direction. In regards to his pelt pattern, however, it's as if his maker wasn't quite sure whether to cast him as a leopard or a tiger in this lifetime– broken rectangular markings appear as either misshapen spots or overly shortened tiger stripes all along his dark, reddish pelt. It's an irregular tabby pattern by all means, but it's a look he carries well despite it's irregularity; the image that he's a fearsome, terrifying beast of the forest still presents itself despite his broken coloring.Personality:
His ears are smaller and more rounded in comparison to the average feral cat's, and this is due in part to his mixed Bengal heritage, his facial markings intense and providing a nice contrast for his bright, poison-green eyes. While on the subject of his eyes, it should be duly noted that they're rather large, as is everything else on his face – his puffy whisker pads, his dark pink nose, and his box-shaped muzzle included. Hawkflame's pelt actually offers a light brown to a reddish variation along his body, the red clearly visible along his undersides, with his extremities flowing more towards the darker end of the spectrum. His tail is black-tipped, his whiskers are noticeably long, and the exact hue of his eyes is a startlingly bright shade of green. It's easy enough to consider him “attractive” by any she-cat's standards, but that's generally one of the only things he has going for him. Hawkflame is known for his nasty, testosterone-stimulated hissy-fits when things don't go his way. Regardless of a bulky, muscular-looking frame Hawkflame is actually a marvelous hunter, his skills primarily in the stealth (and the beat your prey senseless) department. Due to his history, Hawkflame has developed a signature fighting and hunting style – this ThunderClanner now able to incorporate what he's leaned from his short moons as an apprentice into his already distinctive patterns. Hawkflame's build and speed allows him to be one of ThunderClan's prized hunters – but the tom is known for his trouble with bringing his prey back after he's caught it. He still hasn't been kicked of his nasty habit of eating whatever he's caught right then and there – with little regard for the Clan he leaves starving back at camp. With the exception of Leafkit, that is.
Hawkflame is about as far from nice as a cat can get without coming off as just plain mean. Cynical by nature, rude by choice, and selfish by habit, he isn't the easiest to get along with, to that any cat can agree; why Willowstar even let him into the Clan has been the central topic of discussion many times when sharing tongues. Without meaning to, his moods tend to fluctuate between periods of great agitation and complete unconcern, this cranky Bengal-tom never able to reach a proper middle-ground between them – not since he joined the Clan, at least. It really doesn't take much to figure out Hawkflame's personality, or the reasoning behind any of it. Having been born a loner, he notably comes off as rough around the edges, even by Clan-cats standards, as his assertive, aggressive behavior was beaten into him by the laws of the wild. Why he's so nice to little Leafkit is anyone's guess, really; perhaps the tom just has a small bit of brotherly affection for the little she-kit? Or maybe he simply felt the need to watch over her, like a very cranky guardian angel of the feline variety. One of Hawkflame's most noticeable characteristics (and one of his most noticeable faults) is his pride; Hawkflame would sooner jump off of a bridge then admit that he was wrong. Only Leafkit could possibly get him to admit his faults, but not even she could get him to actually apologize for them. He holds within himself a somewhat deformed honor code, and despises cowardice more than anything else (and any cat dumb enough to torment Leafkit) in this world, both in the cats around him and in himself.History:
Hawkflame, when faced with a problem, chooses to go in head first with fangs bared rather then take a step back or two and look at it logically. It's a very blunt approach to problem-solving that has gotten him into trouble on more than one occasion, but Hawkflame, if anything, can adapt and learn from his own mistakes. If the fault is entirely his, however, though Hawkflame will avoid apologizing at all costs, he will bend over backwards to fix the situation in any way he possibly can. His pride won't allow him to feel guilty over anything for long periods of time; his pride won't let him reveal his weaknesses, or let him quit when he's clearly beaten. To complain is weakness; to give up is weakness; to fail is weakness. This is a personal mantra for this belligerent, cynical cat, and he will defend it to the death. Hawkflame holds no love in his heart for the cats who sired him, and though this is no fault of theirs, let alone his, he honestly didn't spend enough time with them to really form any kind of personal attachment. The only creature apart from leafkit that he feels any emotion towards is his littermate, a she-cat of similar coloration to himself. He doesn't take rejection well, nor does he accept compliments well. A strange behavior of his, yes, but due to his distrusting nature, whenever a cat tries to compliment him on something he regards it as lies spoken for the benefit of the cat who said it. Hawkflame is a cat who has some difficulty in expressing his emotions – at least, the ones that aren't expected of him. Very rarely will a cat catch him making a joke, or complimenting another cat; even rarer still, will they hear him being cheerful. He can't express his happiness as other cats do, and it ends up coming out as black humor, cynicism or a grunt of some sort. He isn't really a fan of cats who are overly active, those fellow Clan-mates who can't seem to shut-up, and the kits who can't speak properly. An odd pet-peeve of his, but it's a quirk of his he can't seem to shake – not that he's trying.
Overall, Hawkflame reveals himself to be short-tempered, cynical, secretly caring of those closest to him, and with enough pride for ten ThunderClan cats. He makes for an interesting edition to his chosen Clan, and, perhaps with time, he might actually become a contributing member of ThunderClan society. Willowstar and Lionstep can only hope, at least.
The Ties that Bind:Roleplay Example:
Formerly known as Ezra, Hawkflame grew up near Treecutplace, the second born in a litter of four healthy kits. His father was a loner known as Bryce, and his mother was a beautiful but silly-hearted kittypet by the name of Saphira, their meeting ending up being a small twist of fate when he saved her from a twoleg dog ten moons back. Together, they welcomed three tom-kits and one she-kit into their lives, Ezra the second born, with his elder brother Dane before him, Sullivan after him, and his sister Kira taking the title of youngest. Perhaps at one point he cared for and loved his parents as all kits did, growing up, but this happy aura of family life ended when he turned six moons, and Bryce, his father, decided to push his young 'chicks' out of the family nest. Introduced early to the harsh laws of the wild, Ezra and his three siblings, with the exception of Kira, did not stick together after their family kicked them out.
Despite scattering his kits throughout the forest, Bryce did manage to teach them a few things before he left them entirely on their own. Giving them the means to catch their own food and defend themselves, he taught them all of the basic hunting and fighting skills he'd learned as a loner in his prime. Compared to the training apprentices received in the Clans, it wasn't much, but it was enough to get them started, and ultimately decided which of Bryce and Saphira's kits could adapt to their surroundings – and which kits could not.
Moons Gone Past:
At 18 moons, Ezra had made a name for himself as a tough-as-nails loner, the kind of cat who didn't appreciate others getting in his way, and wasn't afraid to dish out whatever punishment he felt was necessary. His life proved uneventful ever since his sister had wandered off on her own, and, truth be told, nothing exciting actually happened until he stumbled across Leafkit near the ThunderClan border in Leaf-fall. He was 27 moons at the time he found Leafkit, and time has passed slowly for him ever since he brought the kit to ThunderClan – and evidently ended up staying, for fear of being separated from her. Already having the necessary hunting and fighting skills, Ezra was made a warrior after much persuasion of Willowstar, as both the leader and the deputy didn't take too well to his lack of concern for the cats around him. Though he'd been newly christened Hawkflame, it was clear that he was abruptly the same rank as an apprentice within the Clan, as the cats viewed him to be inferior to them in every way – with the exception of being nice to Leafkit, Hawkflame made no attempt to ever prove them wrong.
To Be A Warrior:
A single moon has passed for the newly dubbed Hawkflame, and though he's on “probation” of sorts, in that he has yet to earn the Clan's full trust and respect, he has managed to keep his head down. The only cats in the Clan, however, that could say they know Hawkflame better than most are the queens and kits, due to Hawkflame's frequent visits to the nursery to check on Leafkit - but what they know of him is still considerably vague.
It was a singular raindrop that startled Hawkflame from his slumber. The guilty water droplet took to hastily rolling off of one of his long white whiskers - before one of his large, ruddy-orange paws swiped it away in agitation. Letting out a deep-bellied yawn, the tiger-striped Bengal tom slid out of the warriors' den fluidly, his fierce green eyes settling on a similar-looking structure on the other side of camp. It was the ThunderClan nursery, and Hawkflame's twisted sense of fatherly/older brother/uncle-ish duty pulling his paws toward its entrance. "Leafkit?" He mewed quietly, the tom clearing his parched throat in an effort to improve his voice, his mewl having come out sounding scratchy and unfamiliar. "Leafkit!" He tried again, satisfied that his voice had returned to it's usual level of normalcy. Kits didn't exactly like thunderstorms, did they? So naturally he should be here to check on them... Ch. They have Queens for this. Came his disgruntled reasoning, but Hawkflame, despite any earlier protests, did care a great deal for the kitten he'd rescued, and wouldn't be able to relax fully before he checked on her current condition.Pictures:
