//Finchfeather// He had given her specific instructions to meet him at The Big Tree, the MountainClan deputy taking time out of his busy schedule to spend some much-needed hunting time with his 3rd apprentice, Willowpaw. Where is she? I told her not to be late! Tail flicking in mild irritation, the deputy wore a cheerful expression on his face as he sat, perfectly still beside the base of the tree. A spot where the earth had been freshly turned lay beside him, indicating that a vole he'd noticed earlier had met it's untimely end beneath his claws.
Finchfeather was one of those cats who liked to be kept busy, and sitting here like this, the sun warming up his black-ticked back and pristine white whiskers, was agonizing. Sighing, the deputy slid into a laying-down position, his body shifting his weight to the right as he looked out ahead with expectant, yellowish-hazel eyes, totally bored. Thoughts of his nieces and nephews soon entertained him, a small smile pulling at his muzzle just at mere mention of them. He really did love those little scraps of fur with all his heart.

Willowpaw »
"I'm gonna get you, you stupid squirrel!" Willowpaw ran as fast as she could, to try to catch the squirrel that always, somehow, managed to get out of her reach. Her legs began to ache. Willowpaw stopped abruptly in the field. Wait. The she-cat thought, I'm in a field? Why am I in a field? She scanned the area, and noticed the squirrel she had been chasing stopped, and was staring at her. Willowpaw frowned. "Dumb squirrel." She said aloud. The she-cat scowled and growled at the thing, but it didn't run away. It just shook. It quivered. Then it started screaming, "Wake up! Wake up!" Willowpaw, confused, backed up. Then she noticed everything was shaking around her... "WAKE UP. You lousy lump of fur, you.." An apprentice was shaking her, and Willowpaw shrugged the cat off, and scowled. Quite a freaky dream. she thought, and stood up and stretched. Willowpaw blinked. Did she have something important to do? Mousedung! Me and Finchfeather are supposed to go hunting! she remembered, and Willowpaw ran out of the apprentice den, nearly knocking over an elder. The reckless apprentice didn't call out an apology, however. -- Willowpaw remembered now, as she stood underneath a nearly-dead pine, that they would be hunting near the Big Tree. Hopefully, she would make it in time, But in the meantime, I should make up an excuse... The gray and white she-cat thought as she sprinted over the rocky ground. She knew Finchfeather hated it when she was late for something. -- Willowpaw nearly ran into Finchfeather as she circled the Big Tree, looking for him. Her forest green eyes blinked pleadingly at her mentor, but she said nothing.

//Finchfeather// Finchfeather cocked an eyebrow, feigning a look of complete agitation when in fact, he was actually quite happy to see her. "And what's your reason for being late, Willowpaw? Don't tell me you slept in?" Despite his efforts to come off as a disciplinarian, that spark, that gleam of mischievous understanding couldn't quite vanish from his yellowish-hazel eyes entirely. The tom found himself letting out a small mrrow! of laughter at her expression.
"Relax, I promise not to box your ears off. You'd just better be prepared to put in a full day today, Willowpaw. I've been very busy lately as the deputy, and we've a lot of ground to cover to make up for it." He wasn't blaming the fact that they were somewhat behind schedule on her, no, he was simply stating the reason for their training regiment to take it up a notch. She had 4 moons at the most, left of her training, and Finchfeather intended to make the most of it.

"And what's your reason for being late, Willowpaw? Don't tell me you slept in?"
Willowpaw tried to meet the tom's yellow gaze, but she couldn't. It only took her a moment to realize she was trembling a bit, and she finally mangaed to stop. "Is he going to punish me? Please no, Please, no, I don't wanna get clean bedding for a-" Willowpaw's thought was interrupted by a purr rumbling in her mentor's throat. Her body relaxed a little. He didn't look incredibly mad, and maybe they could finally push her being late aside, and start some hunting! Willowpaw nearly jumped for joy.

This was true. Her mentor was very, very busy. He was deputy, always assigning patrols and whatnot, and visited his very large family often, this Willowpaw didn't mind. There was just about enough time for training. And by the look in Finchfeather's eye, Willowpaw could tell she was falling behind a bit.

//Finchfeather// Finchfeather flicked his tail, his mood picking up now that his apprentice was actually in his sights and ready to learn. "Alright, we'll concentrate on your hunting right now, but we'll attempt battle practice tomorrow, so be sure to get some rest tonight." Fight Training was always something that he had been best at, and though he hadn't really pushed Willowpaw to her limits in that area just yet, he was eager to see what the she-cat was really made of.
With hunting now back on his brain, Finchfeather looked to the base of the tree, his yellowish-hazel eyes trained well to watch for signs of prey in the unlikeliest of places. "I want you to catch me three pieces of prey before we go home, Willowpaw." Finchfeather instructed, as he was the type of tom who trained his apprentices based on a challenge-trial-and-error method, often wanting to turn this into a game of some sort to keep it from getting too tedious. Backing up, the handsome Abyssinian's eyes glinted with mischief. "Begin."
