With soft, gentle features and a sweet, rounded face, this is undoubtedly due to her mixed genetic background. A Scottish Fold, clearly by the way the ears, like tiny little bird wings, sit bent at the top of her sphere-shaped head. Small for her age, Steamcloud has never quite shaken off the look of an apprentice, even though she's two moons into warriorhood, her form semi-cobby but somehow still delicate. Her head is somewhat broad, and a slight stop is visible between the eye ridge and the beginning of her subtle pink nose. Her muzzle is short, and her bite isn't very powerful, this she-cat sometimes having trouble getting her jaws around the bigger prey on the pile. She has what's called a “Teddy Bear Look” by way of her dense, short fur, which literally gives her a soft and cuddly appearance. This is one of the many appealing qualities of the Scottish Fold, and Steamcloud, though of mixed parentage, has obviously reaped in the best of them. Steamcloud's eyes are a warm, honey-gold; large and rounded, they are spaced well apart to give her a permanent look of innocence.Personality:
Interestingly enough, Steamcloud, like all Scottish Fold kittens, was born with straight ears. Long white whiskers adorn her small muzzle and a faint tabby “M” can be seen on the center of her forehead, further accentuating her softened appearance. Steamcloud is definitely a tabby, yes, but in a very subtle shade of cream, her very very faint stripes give her an almost solid cream appearance. As any cat could've guessed, Steamcloud isn't much of a fighter. Though she is skilled as a hunter, despite giving off the impression that she's clumsy and too small to handle much, Steamcloud is capable of bringing in as much as any other warrior. She isn't the greatest, nor will she ever be, and though her fighting skills leave something to be desired, Steamcloud gets by with being absolutely average and nothing more.
Steamcloud's personality has always been very clear from the start; very pure of spirit, optimistic, quiet, a she-cat who avoids conflict as much as she can, it's obvious that her state of being is a gentle, even somewhat fragile one. Something that may or may not cause trouble for her down the road is this she-cat's aversion to change; unless it is absolutely necessary, Steamcloud prefers to keep things as is, and don't like her way of being tampered with. With what's considered an affliction to change, Steamcloud, in her attempts to avoid it, can at often times lose track of what's really going on in her Clan. It's an awful thing to not even know the comings and goings of her own Clan members, so it goes without saying that Steamcloud feels guilty over it. Then again, she always seems to feel guilty over something. Easily persuaded to support another cat's opinion, or easily convinced that she is to blame, Steamcloud, unfortunately, still feels guilt or shame regardless of the fact that she may or may not have done anything at all. With a near rock-solid belief in StarClan, Steamcloud looks to the night sky for answers when her mortal companions cannot answer her, and though she isn't particularly peeved when no answer is given, Steamcloud does often times wish that she could speak with StarClan directly. However, easily swept up in the hype and prestige of legendary figures, it's likely she'd be the equivalent of a feline fangirl in the presence of anyone important or impressive. Environmentally friendly and very conservative, Steamcloud isn't always open to new ideas, but she will hear out anyone who seems as though they have logical reasoning and sense behind it. Steamcloud hates waste; she's the she-cat most likely to nag after the apprentices or kits who are no longer nursing to make sure they don't waste the prey that StarClan has blessed them with.History:
Now there mustn't be any confusion concerning her character. Steamcloud, in all of her youth, does NOT come off as a nagging, needling, law-abiding cat of RiverClan; not at all. Steamcloud due to her age, isn't one to speak out against her elders, and she listens well, even to the point of gullibility. Her eyes always hold a soft kind of innocence, and she takes life one step at a time – only butting in when she thinks it's necessary. Steamcloud holds a general optimism towards the rest of the Clans in the forest, and in her overall outlook on life. Despite all of the negativity that surrounds both LightningClan and ShadowClan, Steamcloud truly believes that it is nothing more than a difference of living styles and attitude, not any underlying note of evilness or darkness lurking in those Clans in particular. She isn't easily forgiving, but she understands things well, and can at often times clearly see the negative and the positive in every situation. It's obvious that Steamcloud is a very honest, trustworthy creature who has been working her whole life to present the world with a clean, friendly image. With that in mind, no cat is really surprised that she values all living organisms; she sees life as something special and, in absolute truth, Steamcloud is afraid to die. So young in her life, she is not yet ready to part with it as some cats sometimes do. Without a malicious bone in her body, Steamcloud doesn't do well in verbal or physical arguments. She is a poor negotiator when it comes to confrontations, and often backs out before she's dragged in too far. Steamcloud tries to keep her feelings inside and remain composed in these kind of situations, but she can't always hold firm in the face of an adversary. Hesitant to trust those closest to her, Steamcloud, despite all of her kindness and unlimited amount of optimism, doesn't really have a best friend. Admittedly so, she can be a bit finicky and not the most wonderful cat to be around when it comes to grooming. Steamcloud HATES dirt, mud, soot – anything that could stain her unusually light coat, actually. Almost OCD about her appearance, this is her one true vice – a small amount of vanity and perfectionism, she doesn't want the Clan to think badly of her if she comes back mud-stained and reeking.
Of course, Steamcloud hardly EVER gets to a point where she can be called “reeking”, what with her extreme displeasure of dirty or smelly things. She does have a problem with others that don't bathe as regularly as she does, and happen to smell up the warriors' den from time to time. Wanting to avoid confrontation, she'll hold out as long as she can, but if it gets to be too much, Steamcloud will definitely say something. Overall she's a well-tempered cat of RiverClan, and though neither the best hunter or fighter, she puts in her all for the sake of her Clan. One last thing to note is Steamcloud's relationship with her brother, Gingerfoot; he really is the closest thing to a best friend for her. Being the only one she wholeheartedly trusts and puts her faith in, Gingerfoot, her littermate, is a valuable cat in her life. Steamcloud admires him, and it is the security that comes with knowing he's watching her back, she can readily cross over into a state of independence. Not too independent, but just bold and brave enough that she can stand on her own four legs without much assistance from anyone else.
The Beginning:Roleplay Example:
Steamcloud was the product of Yellowtail, an ex-loner formerly known as Marcus, and Dawnsong, a kind-hearted RiverClan queen. She was a part of Yellowtail and Dawnsong's second litter, one of two healthy RiverClan kits the she-cat bore – Gingerkit and Steamkit. The newborn kitten was named for her very light ginger fur, while her brother Gingerkit bore a darker, redder variation of her own tabby markings. Yellowtail, at roughly 8 moons and going by the name of Marcus at the time, had met and fallen in love with the RiverClan queen when she herself was undergoing warrior-training. Though he made this decision based on a whim and affections that may or may not be returned to him, Marcus joined RiverClan to train right alongside Steamkit's mother, as Yellowpaw. It wasn't long after the pair became warriors that they had their first litter together. Dawnsong bore two kittens again, but it was only the one, Jackalkit, that had survived. The other kit, a little she-kit by the name of Mistkit, didn't make it past the first three days.
Jackalkit, once he reached the age to be apprenticed, left the Clan for reasons unknown to both his parents and himself – having adopted his father's wandering spirit, no doubt, and sought to make his own life outside of the laws governing the eight Clans. Dawnsong and Yellowtail were heart broken over the loss of their son, and every measure was taken to find him – but it was as if the clever but young cat had vanished into thin air... It took 6 moons at least for Dawnsong to get over this, and it was around the time that Jackal (as he was calling himself now) was 12 moons that Gingerkit and Steamkit were born.
Apprenticeship:
Steamkit has always gotten along extremely well with the members of her family, though it's obvious that she is confused the most by her father, Yellowtail. She doesn't understand his wandering spirit, or why he often gives long looks into the forest, as though imagining what his life could've been had he not chosen to chase after Dawnsong. It isn't a look of regret in his eyes, but rather a kind of wondering...and something like longing, for two worlds he could not have. Steamkit cannot comprehend the distant looks in his eyes, and this unsettles and worries her, despite Yellowtail's efforts to assure her that he has no intention of leaving his family like Jackalkit had done those 12 moons ago... At six moons of age, Steamkit, together with her brother Gingerkit, became an apprentice. Having always gotten along, Steamkit, now Steampaw, looked up to Gingerpaw immensely, and felt a strong sense of security with her same-age sibling always watching her back. Gingerpaw's constant protection, kindness and understanding helped her open up to her mentor, Lilyfur, who was a strong-willed and wild-eyed she-cat of the adventurous kind.
Lilyfur was more of a handful then her apprentice, Steampaw was, and it was hard for them to see eye to eye – but that wasn't as big a barrier as others might think. Steampaw would be the first admit that she was unsure of how to deal with her mentor's adventurous, extremely out-going personality, when she was much of an introvert herself, but once the kinks were ironed out, it wasn't long until they could even be called best friends. Steampaw enjoyed learning from Lilyfur immensely, finding it easier to learn from a she-cat she knew, trusted and looked up to then just any old RiverClan cat. Despite their friendship, there was still a level of authority that stood between Steampaw and Lilyfur, and that was just fine with them.
Steampaw's only real cataclysmic event in the course of her apprentice training occurred when she was twelve moons old, just days away from her warrior ceremony. While out during a final assessment of her hunting skills, Lilyfur and Steampaw ran into a pair of stoats poaching eggs from a fallen nest, the bird that had been sitting on them already slain beside it. Mentor and Apprentice would've liked to just chased them out of the territory, but the mated pair of stoats had no intention of leaving their meals so soon – and, taking the offensive, the pair attempted to chase them out instead. Fighting has never been Steampaw's strong point, and her skills had never truly been tested until that moment – but the little apprentice surprised herself. Lilyfur had been quite proud of her as they limped home, the apprentice's ear torn and bleeding while one of her paws was sprained, but Steampaw still glowed with pride.
Of course, their victorious battle with the stoats ended up putting her in the Medicine Cat's den for 2 moons, and thus delaying her ceremony.
Warriorhood/Current:
So at 14 moons, Steampaw became Steamcloud, and no more then two weeks have gone by since this she-cat's warrior ceremony, the RiverClan warrior still wet behind the ears, so to speak. Steamcloud remains on good terms with both Gingerfoot, Lilyfur and her parents (both of which had retired to the elders' den after she was apprenticed), and intends to keep it that way – regardless of what's thrown at her later on down the road.
Ouch, that really stings! Steampaw gingerly set down her foot, wincing as a stabbing pain shot straight up through her injured appendage, making her eyes water in the process. Fighting those stoats had been quite a challenge, of that she was certain, and Steampaw was quite amazed that she hadn't walked away with worse. A small warm feeling of pride soon entered the little she-cat, and she puffed out her chest, her folded ears giving a small twitch as she smiled. I did do good, didn't I? Lilyfur and I fought off two whole stoats by ourselves! Steampaw hadn't let her mentor do all the work, either – she'd been in the midst of the fray herself, clawing, hissing, scratching and biting as much as time and strategy would allow.Pictures:
”Are you alright, Steampaw?” At the sudden entrance of the RiverClan leader, his voice resonant and deep, the little apprentice jumped at once. Spinning around with wild honey-golden eyes, the she-cat felt her fur settle back along her spine a little as she gazed up at the hulking mass of Oakstar, their leader. Not wishing to appear weak in front of him (but failing nonetheless), Steampaw answered him quickly, but her voice came out a frightened squeak. ”M-Me? I'm f-fine.” If Oakstar was amused by her antics, he didn't let it show. Instead, the big striped tom gazed down at her with his piercing green eyes, voice coming out the usual monotone. ”You aren't fine. You've sprained your paw – you need to go see the Medicine Cat.” It wasn't a word of advice, it was an order. Steampaw's folded ears gave a small quiver of fear at his tone – the resonance in his voice shooting right through her whole body like a shockwave. ”Y-Yes sir,” she murmured with a dip of her head, Oakstar turning to leave.
The massive tom paused in his movements, however, to catch the young she-cats eyes. “I can't have one of my best hunters injured, it's bad for the Clan.” He mewed, and gave her the tiniest hints of a smile. By the time Oakstar had vanished into his den, Steampaw was still left standing there, glowing in a mixture of pride, warmth and total shock. Did Oakstar often give compliments? Something in the she-cat's gut told that he rarely even gave cats the time of day...
